Have you ever wondered how you become successful at wedding photography? Well its always good to learn from other peoples mistakes. Thats why its your lucky day. Im going to tell you how I failed and how I succeeded to getting well over 20 weddings this season.
First this blog is geared towards people who are taking the plunge into wedding photography and have a portfolio already. Second this is geared towards people who actually want to put work into the business to get something out of it. One of the first things I want to say is this. If you want to become a wedding photographer you need to be aware of 2 things is. You need nerves of steel, and you need to be willing to think outside the box. Weddings can be a nerve racking. Brides get stressed and then you know what that means. One of the key things that I found out was this, if your stressed then the whole bridal party is going to be stressed. Look at your self as a big stress ball for the party especially the bride. I have been in a situation where the bride was very stressed. She was borderline freaking out. She was even shaking. What I did was just let her know its going to be ok. I was there not as a photographer but also to help her out with what was needed. Now the key is to help out but also get your job done. After the wedding she was very thankful for my attention to her and she also thanked me for calming her down. Because of that I got some referrals. How you interact at the wedding and how your final outcome of the product comes out will either get you future clients or not.
Now how else do you get clients? Well lets first say how you don't get clients. Clients wont come to you. No one knows you. Your nothing, your a joe schmo who has a camera, why would they come to you? You need to go to the brides if you sit there you will not get a single call or email. Where do they go, what do you do? The knot.com is they best place to access brides. 95% of brides use the knot. For my business this has been a cornerstone. Though its a little pricey at 150 dollars a month. You can stop crying because 150 bucks a month isn't that bad when you think about 2 things. One If you shoot a wedding for 2000 dollars you would have covered your cost for advertising for a year. Two it works. I've used it for less than a yea and I already made my money back times 40. Brides don't go to the yellow pages for advertising. Brides go to the internet. I advertise on a total of 4 websites. Theknot.com, Riwedding.com, Theweddingchannel.com, and partyspot.com. These are Key.
Facebook is a money maker as well. Think about it when ever you post a album ALL your friends see it and guess what they have friends who are getting married.
Always seek inspiration. Seek out other photographers and get inspired. Compfight.com is a flickr search engine. I love this site! Its truly a helpful tool. You can only get better if you are actively perusing greatness. Theres a old proverb in the bible. Lazy people want much bet get little, hard workers get rich
How bad do you want it?
